Do You Water Wisely?

Do You Water Wisely?
Majestic Lawn Care & Landscape ~ Proudly Serving Rockland County, NY and Bergen County, NJ
July is National Irrigation Month and you can celebrate water conservation by readjusting your lawn and landscape watering habits.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 50% of outdoor water use is wasted. How do you know if you’re using your outdoor water wisely?
Your Irrigation System Needs a Check Up
Take a walk around your property. Do you notice water puddling in the same spot? It could mean that your sprinkler system has a broken head or a leaking valve. If you notice your sprinkler system watering your driveway and the kids riding their bikes down your street, you may need to have your irrigation heads readjusted.
Today’s irrigation systems are designed to be super accurate with smart technology—through moisture and weather sensors and timers. Your old system can be recalibrated with these updates.
If you don’t have a sprinkler system in place, consider getting one installed. You’ll save money on your water bills over the long term as well as conserve water. Also, consider adding drip irrigation to your landscaped plants, including trees, flower beds and container gardens. Drip irrigation uses smart technology too and delivers water at the right time directly to the plants’ roots.
Saving Water through Wise Lawn Care & Landscaping
You can also cut down on your water bills, avoid fines from your local municipality and conserve water at the same time by using these smart lawn care and landscaping tips:

  1. Allow your grass to grow taller
  2. Plant native and other low maintenance plants
  3. Rebuild your landscape into hydrozones
  4. Allow your grass to go dormant during heatwaves and dry spells
  5. Water your lawn and landscapes only in the morning
  6. Add mulch to retain moisture at the root level
  7. Install or recalibrate your irrigation system.

At Majestic Lawn Care and Landscape, we can set you up with a new sprinkler system or have your old one recalibrated. We also can redesign your landscapes using more low maintenance plants and installing plant materials according to their irrigation needs.
