Use These 4 Essential Lawn Mowing Tips All Summer Long

Lawn Care Services for Rockland County, NY & Bergen County, NJ
Summertime is almost here and that means sunnier, hotter and drier days. Your lawn needs some special care to keep it looking green all summer long.
Here are four essential lawn mowing tips to use this summer:

  1. Raise your mower blades: By allowing your lawn grass to grow longer, your yard will be able to withstand dry spells, encourage long root growth, and shade the soil to prevent weeds from germinating.
  2. Mulch your grass clippings: There’s an old wives’ tale that says leaving grass clippings on your yard causes thatch. Yet, it’s just a myth. You actually give your lawn free fertilizer when you allow grass clippings, which are mostly water and will quickly dissolve back into the soil, to stay on your lawn after mowing.
  3. Regularly mow your yard: There’s two tips rolled up into one with this point: Take only a third off the top of your yard grass and keep a consistent mowing schedule. Just like you don’t want to crew cut your lawn, you also don’t want it to get beyond 3”-4” in height.
  4. Sharpen those mower blades: If your blades are dull, you’ll tear the grass blades and this tearing can lead to disease and insect infestation. Instead, make a clean cut with regularly sharpened blades.
