If you have trees on your Rockland County property that look dead or diseased, it may be time to remove them.
But don’t handle this job by yourself. Instead, hire a certified arborist to cut down your tree and grind the remaining stump.
In this article, you’ll learn what a professional arborist is and why you need to hire one to remove your NY trees.
What is a Certified Arborist?
A certified arborist is someone who is trained in the care of trees. Tree work is very dangerous especially when it comes to tree removal—and you want someone knowledgeable to remove them.
Pruning, trimming, thinning and removing trees require expert knowledge of trees and safety. You’re taking a huge risk by hiring someone with a just a truck and a chainsaw.
According to the International Society of Arboriculture, “Certified Arborists are individuals who have achieved a level of knowledge in the art and science of tree care through experience and by passing a comprehensive examination developed by some of the nation’s leading experts on tree care.”

3 Additional Reasons Why You Need a Certified Arborist to Remove Trees from Your Property
In addition to the training and experience, there are three benefits to hiring a certified arborist for tree removal:

  • Your arborist will use safety precautions for your property affected by the tree’s removal: Before he climbs your tree, your arborist will first evaluate your property for septic fields, sprinkler systems and underground wires. You’ll need to move any patio furniture, and you may need to protect your outdoor living rooms before your arborist removes any trees.

  • Your arborist will perform a professional job and clean up your property before leaving for the day: All leaves, twigs, branches and other tree debris will be removed at the end of the project.

  • Your certified arborist has the equipment to grind down the tree’s stump, so it doesn’t present a safety hazard or a messy look to your property: He’ll use a stump grinder that uses blades to disintegrate the stump so it doesn’t harbor insects, grow tree sprouts, or is a tripping hazard on your property.

What is Stump Grinding?
Your arborist has a stump grinder that cuts down the tree’s stump, so it disappears from view. Stump grinding, however, doesn’t remove the tree’s roots from the soil.
Instead, you or your arborist will have to dig out the roots or apply a root head remover to help the roots break down.
The stump will be ground down to 6” – 8” below ground level so future grass growth will come in evenly.
